Leading customer-specific projects as an interface between Sales and R&D

How did you come to become a product manager in the field of process sensors?
During my apprenticeship as an electronics technician, but also during my time as a journeyman, I was constantly in contact with sensors and actuators. My job was to install, commission and maintain these products. Through these experiences, it soon became clear to me that I not only wanted to install and commission sensors, but also help to define, develop and improve them.

What makes the job of a product manager at Baumer interesting compared to other companies and industries?
Compared to my previous employers, product management at Baumer is more diverse and global. You are constantly confronted with new tasks and challenges, which definitely has a very motivating, exciting and, above all, varied effect on my work at Baumer. The global orientation of the company leads to a large network and enables insights into different countries, markets and industries. In addition, you can experience first-hand that almost no product or consumer good is manufactured without the use of a sensor. In other words, you make a significant contribution to the production of everyday consumer goods.

What was the best learning experience that happened to you during your time at Baumer?
One of the most instructive moments for me was realizing how important it is to understand the processes and applications of the customers in order to be able to record their requirements and needs correctly and precisely. This is the only way to support and advise the customer in the best possible way. In addition, this «application and requirements know-how» is the basis for future market-driven products, product modifications and adaptations.
