In Industrial Engineering, as part of the development process, we are primarily responsible for transferring newly developed products to series production.
During a standard working week I am often busy with the conception of new projects for industrial engineering. This includes feasibility analyses, cost and effort estimates, but also process and equipment optimization for production. A major concern for us here is to further develop our standards in order to provide stable equipment and manufacturing processes. To this end, we meet regularly in so-called «Technology Circles», where we exchange information on our standards and their further development in cross-site committees. Of course, this results in new tasks and work packages that I work on or distribute.
In order to ensure ongoing production at the site, the Industrial Engineering team also ensures 3rd-level support. In doing so, we provide support for larger topics where our product and system knowledge is required with measurements and tests on site.

What does a typical working week look like for you?
My day-to-day work as team leader of our Industrial Engineering team usually includes many, but short and efficient meetings that help us move forward in our projects. To this end, our agile project updates take place regularly («Daily Stand-Up» or «Sprint Planning» / «Review»). In the team itself, we always plan our next tasks on Mondays directly on our team board. These coordination rounds help me to deploy and plan resources flexibly. In addition to my role as a team leader, I am also responsible for projects. Here, I ensure that the cross-site project teams are on the same page and that knowledge exchange and collaboration work optimally.

What are the characteristics of your job?
The variety of topics and tasks I deal with on a daily basis is remarkable. Industrial Engineering, as part of the development team, forms an interface to product management, but also to production. This means that I am right in the middle of numerous challenges and can support and help with my expertise.
The interdisciplinary team, which I have the privilege of leading and motivating as a team leader, consists of equipment developers with different technical backgrounds, process developers and colleagues in prototype and fixture construction. Every day, I acquire new knowledge here, as it is my claim to be able to advise and decide competently on the various topics.

How did you come to choose Baumer?
In 2017, I was looking for a varied position that would challenge me not only cognitively, but also in my practical skills. Industrial engineering – in particular equipment development – offers the opportunity to develop and support test stations from the idea to commissioning. I was particularly attracted by the open cooperation, the start-up character and the innovative spirit at Baumer.
