Applications

Analog tachometers (tacho dynamos, DC tacho generators), usually called “tachos” for short, are devices with an output voltage proportional to the speed. They generate the output voltage by means of a generator, therefore do not require any electrical auxiliary energy and combine high signal dynamics and robustness.

In drive technology, tachos are used to record the actual speed value, for example in the following areas

The LongLife technology also supports to detect low speeds precisely in real time.

Long-term stable sealing concept

The elaborate Baumer HeavyDuty sealing concept allows the protection class IP 66 and IP 67 over a wide temperature range up to +95 °C.
Thanks to a sophisticated combination of labyrinth and shaft seals, the HeavyDuty encoders are permanently protected against all types of solid, moist and pasty contamination.

Durable double-sided bearing setup

Thanks to unmatched resistance to axial and radial load, the Baumer concept of bearings at both shaft ends is well proven and tried and tested for decades in electrical machinery engineering.
Baumer HeavyDuty encoders feature - wherever mechanically feasible - bearings at both encoder shaft ends for unrivalled long service life and maximum mechanical reserve capacity.

Proven HeavyDuty principle

These robust housings with solid and thick walls are the perfect protection against outside impacts.
The torsion-resistant design is intended to endure high loads by shock and vibration.

Outstanding, sea water resistant corrosion protection

Baumer HeavyDuty rotary encoders are ideally suited for corrosive environments thanks to optimized material selection and highly resistant coatings for successful long-term use, for example near shore and offshore.
Their corrosion protection corresponds to categories C4 or CX (C5-M) in accordance with the standard EN ISO 12944.
Special equipment options for operation in the arctic, tropics and desert are available on request.
