Condition Monitoring

Multifunctional sensors have been part of Baumer's standard portfolio for years. The proven BPIK axle encoder has now been extended with condition monitoring functionality. Multiple use of the sensors enables economical and extremely efficient condition monitoring on the wheelset, e.g. to detect flat spots.

Technology

Multi-Unit encoder concept

Saving installation cost was driving the development of the unique multi-unit encoder concept of Baumer. Up to 4 encoder units can be integrated integrated into one sensor, each encoder units is independent from each other and can configured independently, e.g. interfaces, pulse-per-revolution (ppr) and other settings. This concept reduces the number of connectors and cables from the axle to the car body and with this, it reduces the risk of damages due to external impacts.

Torsional vibration detection

BPIK and BPIV speed signals enable torsional vibration detection with ultimate dynamics and precision, by unsurpassed signal quality and robustness, high resolution and zero backlash. This cuts down on wear while improving traction and passenger safety and comfort.
