SPS 2024: Smart automation with Baumer sensor solutions

With NexSonic®, Baumer has developed a measurably better ultrasonic technology. It enables very fast response times of just 10 ms, an extremely short blind range (10 mm) and smart filter functions that can, for example, mask out interfering objects. Thanks to the adjustable sound beam width (narrow, medium, wide), the sensors can be optimally adapted to the application. The revolutionary EB260 bearingless rotary encoder combines the precision of optical sensing with the robustness and cost-effectiveness of magnetic systems while minimizing installation space. The innovative LowHarmonics® signal processing with auto-calibration eliminates signal errors caused by mounting, temperature, ageing and mechanical factors, thus ensuring maximum precision and control quality. The integrated airgap monitor continuously records the distance to the magnetic rotor. Even the smallest changes caused by damage to the machine mechanics are monitored and reported to the higher-level system. The EB260 opens up completely new possibilities in drive technology.

Baumer encoders of our “Hübner-Berlin” brand have been the benchmark in heavy-duty applications for 70 years. With the new HOG800 series, we are now presenting the next generation of these successful models with further enhanced protection against miswiring, shaft currents, overvoltage and mechanical stress. We have now made the smart functions of our comprehensive industrial encoder platform available for heavy-duty applications. These include intelligent parameterization of resolution, output level and direction of rotation and integration into the Baumer Sensor Suite. New monitor functions for sensor status, temperature and operating time are also available.

With the safety-certified EAM580RS absolute encoder, Baumer already meets the future mandatory safety requirements of the latest safety product standard for encoders IEC 61800-5-3:202 (SIL2 according to IEC 61800-5-3:2021, IEC 61508, as well as PLd according to ISO 13849:2023). The safety certificate issued by TÜV Rheinland reduces the effort required for documentation and integration. Commissioning is accelerated with the Baumer Sensor Suite. The robust magnetic EAM580RS expands the Baumer encoder toolbox for safety-relevant fields of application.

The new 50 series has been specially developed for the OEM market. It offers sensors for pressure, temperature and conductivity measurement and is characterized by best-in-class accuracy, the largest measuring range and short response time. Its uniform operating concept with colour touch display enables excellent process visualization and simplifies commissioning. All models have powerful IO-Link dual channel interfaces with digital data transmission in real time. With the sensors of the 50 series, processes can be controlled more efficiently and resources can be saved. At the SPS, we will also be showing our latest level and flow sensors in operation.

The CM50I IO-Link masters enable the powerful connection of sensors and actuators to the control system. They impress with the fastest cycle times, even with real-time-capable Industrial Ethernet systems such as Profinet and EtherCat. M12 connections for all IO-Link, Ethernet connections and the power supply make wiring simple, cost-efficient and error-free. The CM50I IO-Link masters from Baumer can measure voltage, current and temperature on each pin. This allows energy consumption and errors to be analyzed quickly and easily. All settings are easy to parameterize via the intuitive Baumer Sensor Suite.
